Ina Garten’s chocolate sauce is a silky, glossy sauce made from bittersweet chocolate, cream, butter, and a hint of coffee or vanilla for depth. It’s versatile, quick to prepare, and can be made ahead for easy entertaining.
6 ounces good-quality bittersweet chocolate (60–70% cacao), chopped
½ cup heavy cream
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
1 teaspoon instant coffee granules (optional, enhances chocolate flavor)
½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, combine the heavy cream, butter, and instant coffee granules (if using). Heat until the cream just begins to simmer—do not let it boil.
Remove the pan from heat and add the chopped bittersweet chocolate. Let sit undisturbed for 1–2 minutes to soften.
Whisk gently until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is silky and smooth. Stir in the vanilla extract.
Use immediately while warm, or let cool slightly and store in an airtight container in the fridge. Reheat gently when needed.
